Equipping farmers for a brighter tomorrow

At Farm Lab Ethiopia, we bridge the gap between traditional farming and modern mechanization by renting appropriate, affordable equipment to smallholder farmers. The tools are designed to enhance productivity and reduce hard manual labor, empowering farmers to improve their livelihoods and achieve sustainable growth.

barriers to growth

In Ethiopia, smallholder farmers face significant challenges due to limited access to critical resources such as quality seeds, fertilizers, and mechanization. These shortages lead to low productivity, labor-intensive farming, and reduced food security. Without the proper tools and technologies, farmers struggle to overcome these obstacles, making it difficult for them to improve their yields and sustain long-term agricultural growth.

From seeds to systems

To reach rural farming communities across Ethiopia, we aim to create REPEATABLE MODELS that focus on how LOCAL SOLUTIONS can be efficiently SCALED, across Ethiopia and beyond.

Seeing is Believing

We’ve embarked on a mission to establish a fully functional, self-sustaining Farm Lab that equips Ethiopian communities with the technologies, knowledge, and tools needed to promote mechanized regenerative agriculture. By making these resources accessible, we aim to empower farmers and transform agricultural practices across the country.

An Integrated System

Our solution is an integrated technology transfer system, with Farm Labs serving as local hubs. These hubs provide farmers with access to equipment, digital tools, and resources to improve productivity, profitability, and resilience. By establishing a network of interconnected Farm Labs / Hubs, farmers can share best practices, access market information, and leverage collective bargaining power, driving wider systemic change. Ultimately, this network creates a virtuous cycle of innovation and collaboration, enhancing smallholder farmers' livelihoods and advancing food sovereignty across Ethiopia.

Our Equipment Range

The local hub has a full suite of appropriate equipment including 50hp tractors and matching implements, that can provide smallholder farmers with the entire range of mechanisations services, from land preparation to harvesting and transportation.

Our Digital Platform

Our Farm Lab has a full suite of appropriate applications that can provide smallholder farmers with the digital tools that they need to manage their farm and maximise their profitability.

Farm Lab at Hawassa University

We are initially focusing on the Sidama region and we have created a partnership with Hawassa University to develop our first Farm Lab at their Innovation and Technology Campus.

A New Approach

What if we stopped working independently, making minor incremental changes, and instead worked together to take bold steps toward a prosperous future that we would love to live in….

….but realise it today?
